The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council met March 6 in Galloway, partly to vote on its recommended fluke or summer flounder bag limit and season for 2008. Afterward the federal government will approve or reject the regs, but these are likely to be approved.

Tom Fote from the Jersey Coast Anglers Association said in an e-mail that the council at the meeting voted for the following fluke regs for this year:

SIZE LIMIT           BAG LIMIT           OPEN SEASON
18”                         8                          5/24 to 9/7

(Fote actually said the season was open until 9/8, but other sources confirmed that 9/7 is the correct day.)

The options that they had been considering, according to Fote in a previous e-mail, were:

SIZE LIMIT      BAG LIMIT  OPEN SEASON
A 17.5”           2                 6/28 to 9/8

B 17.5”          8                 7/4 to 9/2

C 18.0”          2                 5/24 to 9/8

D 18.0”          8                 5/24 to 9/7

E 18.5”          8                 5/17 to 10/6
