Out with the old. Some anglers might prefer to But plummeting temps will nix Toss the old rods and reels in the garage, and break out the It’s ice-fishing season. Tip-ups, jigging rods and ice scoops are the order of the day. Frabill, the Milwaukee company, produces an extensive line of ice-fishing gear from rod-and-reel combos to high-tech shelters. A two-person, portable, ice-fishing tent, the Trekker DLX, or “Deluxe,” is built with a thick fabric meant to be rugged and to help retain heat. Measuring 7-feet 5-inches wide, It fishes two anglers with gear and comes with two swivel boat seats. Front and rear zippers are featured, and so is a venting system. Cold comfort.
This ice scooper, shown in the photo, is one example of the company’s various ice-fishing accessories. The long handle is meant to prevent stress on the angler’s back. No need to bend over to scoop free the fishing hole. The reinforced, polypropylene, nylon construction is meant to be particularly durable. The handle features a 30-inch, engraved ruler, and the scoop is large. The scooper comes with a limited lifetime warrantee.
The Pro Thermal Tip-Up covers the entire fishing hole with a thick, insulated cover to keep the hole unfrozen, even in minus-25 degrees, the company says. The cover also keeps snow out that could blow in, and blocks sunlight that could look unnatural coming through the hole, spooking fish. The tip-up features a lock to keep the flag upright and visible, regardless of winds; two trip settings for light and heavy; a reel handle to retrieve line; a hook holder to prevent tangling; a bait clip to hold oversized bait from creating false tips, releasing on a strike; and more. Be sure to check out the company’s other tip ups and also a large selection of ice-fishing rod-and-reel combos. To see all of Frabill’s gear, visit Frabill's ice-fishing web page. |
