Delaware Bay Fishing Report 4-22-14

Welcome to the year's first Delaware Bay Fishing Report!

Note: This report will grow once drum begin to be boated from the bay in May and summer flounder season is opened on May 23.

A report might not even be available during some weeks until then.

But during weeks when there’s news, a report will be posted.

Port Elizabeth

Not many fishing reports rolled in from the bay, but one boat trip that bagged striped bass was known about, and stripers were known to be boated off Reeds Beach and near Bug Light, said Sharon from The Girls Place Bait & Tackle. The trip that was known about bagged probably a dozen stripers on the bay last week. Some keepers were finally reported from Fortescue from shore anglers. The legal fish were mixed with throwbacks, and previously throwbacks and white perch were angled there. Some good catches of perch were made on brackish rivers. Nobody mentioned blackfish caught from the ocean or anywhere, but a bunch of green crabs were sold for blackfish bait on Monday. That seemed because weather was beautiful that day, but weather was rough during much of spring. “Cold, windy, rainy,” Sharon said. “Snowy!” she laughed. That seemed to delay some fishing this year, and anglers seemed late to launch boats for the season. But Sharon did hear about some stripers around in the bay. Fresh clams and bunker, bloodworms, green crabs and all usual baits are stocked. The Girls Place is located on Route 47, just after Route 55 ends, on the way to the bay. It’s the long, one-story, yellow building on the right, with plenty of parking, including for trailered boats.
