ZeeBaaS Reels
Origninally Posted in 2009

The best overachievers
don’t compete against others.

They compete against themselves.

Robert Koelewyn, who in 1991 developed VanStaal Reels, the
first high-end spinning reels on the mass market, apparently tried to outdo himself.

In late 2006 he and partner
Kristopher Rydzewski, who used
to work at VanStaal, introduced ZeeBaaS Reels.

Mission accomplished: ZeeBaaS Reels are the best, some say.

Not only did ZeeBaaS, Dutch for "ocean boss,” intend to build a saltwater spinning reel with the best design and materials, but the company took an extra step.

They built the reel to be customized or to be versatile.

Four different sized spools can be used on the same reel body for different sized lines: the only “scalable” reel, the company says.

Three different bails—a single-roller; a dual- or double-roller; and a full bail—can be fished on each reel for different fishing situations or preferences.

Short, medium and long handles can be used on each, and the handles can be switched for right-
or left-hand retrieve.

Other options include round, oval or ball knobs on the handle and  rollers in either aluminum/ceramic or titanium/nitride.

There’s more.

ZeeBaaS reels are meant to be user-friendly for maintenance, because they can be easily, simply disassembled for self-service, recommended once a year.

But the company also offers reel servicing at an economical rate.

The different spool sizes are 2 inches, 2.25 inches, 2.5 inches and 2.75 inches, meant for 10-
to 20-pound mono or 30- to 50-pound braid.

Two different rotor sizes are used: a smaller size for the two smaller spools and a larger size for the two larger spools. The different rotors are easily switched on a reel.

The reels are especially lightweight, built to be rugged and come with openings for quick water drainage, especially handy in the surf.

ZeeBaaS Reels are available in black, silver or gray.

Are the reels the best, even better than Koelewyn’s original invention,
Van Staals?

That’s an opinion.

But surely ZeeBaaS Reels are
among the best.

Let’s not give Koeleywn and Rydzewski reason not to top themselves!

Speaking of that, the newest version of ZeeBaaS Reels, the third version,
is expected to be introduced this summer.
