Structure on a String

Fish the structure.

That's universal fishing advice.

Fish gather around structure such as weeds.

So if an angler can find structure, that’s half the battle.

But sometimes finding structure is more difficult than others, such as when ice fishing.

Augering lots of holes through the ice to explore the bottom for weeds is impractical.

Structure on a String to the rescue.

Structure on a String is meant to create an area of artificial weeds underwater to attract fish for ice angling.

The artificial weeds, or Reel Weeds, as the company
calls them, come attached to a cord -- creating the Structure on a String -- and are sent down through
the water to whatever depth desired.

A weight at the bottom sinks
the Structure on a String.

A foam float at the top keeps
the artificial weeds suspended vertically in the water.

When the time comes to pull in Structure on a String at the end
of the trip, the angler squeezes the foam float in the ice hole.

That breaks it free from the ice that formed around the float, leaving a hole big enough for the Reel Weeds to be pulled through.

Anglers drill a group of holes, sending down a number of the Structures on a String, creating an area of vegetation, dropping down baits near them.

Essentially the fish reportedly come to the angler, instead of the angler trying to come to the fish.

Structure on a String comes in packs of two 4-foot lengths for a total of 8 feet, five 4-foot lengths for 20 feet, or four 6-foot lengths for 24 feet.

They come with the floats, weights and a holder that the cord and Reel Weeds are wrapped around for storage.

The company spent years and hundreds of hours developing
the product, it says.

Reel Weeds are made to look right, attract fish, include no materials harmful to the environment, and stand up to extreme cold, far below zero.

The company also offers Reel Weeds in systems that can be used
for other purposes, including to disguise gear such as an underwater camera cable.
