Andros
A Series Reels

Okuma’s Andros
reels were the first designed to “maximize the experience” of fishing with small-diameter, high-strength braided lines," the company says.

Okuma is upgrading
the reels, and introducing several new models, for 2015.

High-end drag is the cornerstone of Andros reels, the company says.

The reels will now feature dual force drag that Okuma previously
introduced in its Makaira line of reels.

With dual force drag, both sides of the spool, not just one, include drag.

That’s meant to create better balance and distribute heat better.

When drag is only included on one side, that’s imbalanced, like if a car only had brakes on one side.

Dual force drag is only one of the upgrades.

Some of the old models were one-speeds, and some were two-speeds.

All the new models are two-speeds.

The new models are called the Andros A Series, and are three larger reels than before: the A-12IIa, A-12SIIa and A-16IIa.

The A-12IIa has a line capacity of 420 yards of 25-pound mono, two speeds with gear ratios of 4.7:1 and 2.1:1 and drag at strike from 27 pounds to 34 pounds.

The A-12SIIa has the same line capacity and drag at strike but is higher-speed, with two gear ratios of 6.4:1 and 2.1:1.

The A-16IIa has a line capacity of 650 yards of 25-pound mono, two gear ratios of 4.3:1 and 1.3:1 and drag at strike from 34 pounds to 48 pounds.

All Andros reels, like previously, are made with machined aluminum frames and spools.

The newest versions all sport a new look of bright silver with a black spool.
