BBZ-1 Rat

What on Earth would want to eat a rat?

A big largemouth bass.

That’s why anglers fish rat lures.

SPRO, the manufacturer of lures and other tackle, is introducing the BBZ-1 Rat.

Largemouth pro angler Bill Siemental, founder of the company Big Bass Zone, reportedly took two years to design the lure for SPRO.

Siemental also hosts BBZtv.

Rats are big, and so is the lure, measuring 10 inches, including the tail.

The hard-plastic lure is filled with foam, so it floats, and will be available in five color schemes.

Different body colors are available, and the tail is interchangeable for different colors.

Featuring a large, square bill, the lure includes a single rattle inside for a deep thump.

The rat can be fished in several ways, including in the walk-the-dog style or as a wake-bait.

You can also bulge it or pop it, the company says.

The BBZ-1 Rat won the award for best hard lure this year at ICAST, the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades.

Why would a large bass want to eat a rat?

We don’t know, but the technique, sometimes called fishing rats in the pads, was already well-known and effective on bass.

The BBZ-1 Rat will be introduced to the market this fall.
