Coastal Salt Pro Surf Rods

If you’re a surf caster in the Northeast, you’re familiar with the Daiwa Salt Pro Minnow Lure, probably the most popular plug currently in the sport.

You might not be familiar with the perfect rod to cast the lure.

That’s the Daiwa Coastal Salt Pro Surf Rod, the company says.

The rod is designed for plugging the surf, and here’s a quick rundown.

Several models of the rod are new.

All the Salt Pro rods feature IM-7 graphite blanks, blank-through handles, X-tube grip wraps for control and comfort, Fuji Low Rider Guides with Alconite Rings, and Fuji DPS Reel Seats with black hoods.

The IM in IM-7 stands for intermediate modulus, and the number 7 further indicates the modulus or stiffness.

The Daiwa Salt Pro Minnow

IM-7 is stiffer than IM-6, and so on.

The higher the modulus, the more sensitive, but also the more brittle.

Some anglers consider intermediate modulus the sweet spot, though some prefer high modulus.

Some consider ultra-high modulus overkill.

The Salt Pro rods are available in medium to heavy weights and 7- to 12-foot lengths.

They're made for line weights from 10 to 50 pounds and lures from 1 to 10 ounces, depending on the model.

The new models are four versions: a medium 7-footer, a medium heavy 8-footer and two heavy 11- and 12-footers.

Now you know the perfect rod for the perfect lure for surf fishing.

The perfect reel and line is all you’ll need to figure out!
