Daiwa J-Braid | ||||
The greater the number of strands that make up a braided line, the suppler the line. Daiwa’s J-Braid, introduced this year, is eight strands. That makes it cast farther and makes it more sensitive than previous braids that were four or six strands, the company says. The eight-carrier braid, as it’s called – carrier is the number of strands in braid – is softer, smoother and stronger, it says. The eight strands also make J-Braid perfectly round, Daiwa says. This is all great, but here’s the best part. J-Braid is unusually inexpensive for eight-carrier. It’s $14.95 for 150 yards, $24.95 for 330 yards and $129.95 for 1,650 yards. The braid is available in three colors. Dark green can be used when a natural color is desired, including for tying directly to a hook or lure, instead of using a leader. Chartreuse is highly visible, and can help anglers detect line movement. Multi-color is meant for deep-drop fishing, because the color changes every 10 yards, so the angler can conveniently know the depth fished. Daiwa also introduced a 12-carrier braid this year in Europe and previously in Japan but, at press time, not yet in the United States. For more info about J-Braid, visit Daiwa’s website. |
