Black Ops Combo

Frabill’s
Black Ops
ice-fishing
rod-and-reel
combo almost
looks like a toy.

It’s built to fit
in the palm to
be ultra-sensitive
for panfishing.

Yet the superlight rod is extremely powerful to yank fish
like a jumbo perch or 2-pound crappie from the
water, the company says.

Line feeds straight off the spool, avoiding lure spin.

The large-arbor reel has a 1:1 ratio, retrieves
8 inches of line per revolution and comes with lubrication made to avoid freezing.

The graphite rod includes titanium guides.

Two models of the combo are available:
the Ultra-Light 18-Inch and the Quick Tip 26-Inch.

Frabill pro-staffer Jacek Gawlinksi, captain of the Polish National Ice Fishing Team, designed the Black Ops.

“I spend a lot of time fishing – that’s what I do – and I am constantly developing, tweaking and improving on ice-fishing tackle and gear designs,” he said.

The combo is named Black Ops because it’s like an ice-fishing weapon that feels like an Uzi or MAC 10, the company says.

The combo resembles miniscule ones used to catch prize-winning European species no bigger than American baitfish, Frabill says.

The Black Ops was designed to offer the advantages of those rods but for bigger,
American fish.

It’s meant to be an advanced, specialized outfit.

But it could also just be fun.

If you’re going to freeze your toes off, have fun.
