Loon Angler Kayak

Kayaks made for
fishing can almost
seem a new idea.

Many designs
have been developed
in the 15 years since manufacturing the vessels became popular.

The Loon Angler is Old Town’s newest fishing kayak.

The company introduced the vessel at this year’s ICAST that was taking place when this article was posted.

That’s the annual International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, the world’s largest sportfishing trade show.

The Loon Angler is an evolution of Old Town’s Loon kayak that was introduced 20 years ago.

The Loon, the original, is a classic in the
Old Town line, a paddling kayak, not a fishing one, that’s durable, stable and roomy, a “reassuring ride” for beginners,
the company says.

Both are sit-in kayaks, for those who prefer shelter from the elements.

The Loon Angler, available in 10-1/2- and 12-1/2-foot lengths, features extra width and volume for optimum stability and room, the company says.

An innovative, removable work deck is an exciting feature, it says.

The work deck, exclusive to the Loon Angler, sits at arm’s length in front of the angler, and is removable.

The work deck features storage trays, a storage compartment with a lid that latches, a bottle holder and a USB port to keep phones, cameras, hand-held GPS’s and other electronics charged.

Electronics on a kayak? Wow. This really is 2015.

Anyway, the Loon Angler features the most advanced kayak seating system on the market, the company says.

The kayak also includes flush-mount rod holders just behind the angler for trolling or to quickly grab a rod, bow and stern deck bungees for storage, and a rear hatch with a click seal.

Are fishing kayaks a new idea?

Arctic people are known to have fished and hunted from kayaks as long ago as 4,000 years.

So, not really.

But the Loon Angler really is one of the latest.

The kayak was yet to be included on Old Town’s website at press time, but click here for a press release with a few more details.

Look for the Loon Angler at stores soon.
