Orca Popper

I actually remember seeing a popper for the first time as a kid.

The local hardware shop’s fishing section featured a new display on the counter with poppers in many colors.

I knew by sight that these would catch.

Fish smashed the lures, sure enough.

Shimano’s new Orca Popper has an immediate look like that.

The lure's mouth includes a cup for popping, and a large opening is included above the cup.

That opening is connected to smaller openings at the top of the lure.

Water sprays out the top through those openings like a rooster tail.

The lure still pops, but is a popper kicked up a notch.

Or, if the lure is fished with a long sweep underwater, a large bubble trail erupts behind.

The lure’s design is based on how a jet engine turns low pressure into high pressure, Shimano says.

The lure, available in 4-3/4 or 6 inches in seven colors, can be fished three ways: in a steady reel, in small sweeps that keep the lure along the surface or in large sweeps that pull the lure underwater.

The Shimano Orca Popper was supposed to become available in late July at stores.
