Daiwa BG Spinning Reel

Daiwa’s previous version of the BG or Black Gold Spinning Reel was an affordable workhorse.

“Bulletproof, lasts forever,” one reviewer said.

The new version, introduced this year, seems even better.

“It’s incredibly smooth – I mean ridiculous – (and) super affordable,” the reviewer said.

The reel comes in 10 sizes for 4- to 30-pound monofilament or 8- to 80-pound braid, and the sizes retail for $100 to $130.

The new BG is leaner and meaner, Daiwa says.

The slim-profiled, sharp-looking reel was reportedly redesigned from the ground up.

Features include a black-anodized, machined-aluminum body, a waterproof drag and Daiwa’s DigiGear System.

The system features the largest drive gear in Daiwa’s spinning-reels history, increasing tooth contact for smoothness and strength.

The reel looks nothing like the original, except the black-and-gold color.

“It’s just a sick reel for the money,” the reviewer said.
