Predator XL Minn Kota

Not a kayak, not a bass boat, not a drift boat.

Old Town’s Predator XL Minn Kota is meant to be unlike any other vessel.

Old Town, maker of canoes and kayaks, and Minn Kota, maker of electric motors, teamed up to produce this vessel, the newest in Old Town’s Predator line of kayaks.

The Predator XL Minn Kota is a kayak, really.

But it’s unique.

A main reason is an optional electric motor, the Minn Kota Motor Console.

The motor, with up to 45 pounds of thrust, can provide hands-free, stealthy, quiet fishing.

See the photo at the bottom of the page to see the unique positioning of the motor in the center of the vessel and to get an idea about how the motor is easily installed or removed.

The motor comes with anodized, zinc-coated metal to be "saltwater grade," and includes a "quick-stand" feature to avoid debris, the company says.

The hands-free motor operation, accomplished by foot pedals, is like on a bass boat.

The Predator can dip into places that a bass boat can’t, though, of course.

A typical kayak needs to be paddled and isn’t made for hands-free fishing, of course.

This Predator is also unlike a typical kayak in other ways, including its tri-hull that provides stability enough for an angler to stand up and fish.

Plus, this Predator’s thrust is strong enough to use on a river.

The vessel is unlike drift boats that are made to be paddled on rivers, of course.

So, not a kayak, not a bass boat, not a drift boat.

Not inexpensive, either.

The vessel itself is $1,7999.99, and the optional motor is $1,199.99.

But this is a highly specialized vessel with many, many features, too many to describe here, and a number of options.
