Shimano's Nasci Reel | ||||
Many new reels seem to be getting introduced this year. But what about a reel for the Average Joe? Shimano’s new Nasci can be a reel for that, and is getting rave reviews. The Nasci, a spinning reel for light freshwater to medium saltwater, Shimano says, is meant to replace the company's Symetre reel. The Symetre was often praised over the years and was priced about the same as the Nasci. The Nasci is $99 to $109, depending on the model, and is meant to be improved over the Symetre. This could be the best mid-level reel that Shimano ever offered, Sport Fishing magazine said. The Nasci is Shimano’s first reel at this price that features the company’s Hagane gears. The gears are cold-forged, instead of cut. That creates long-lasting smoothness and creates strength, the company says. Nasci’s drive gear is reportedly 165 percent stronger than Symetre’s. Nasci also features what Shimano calls X-Ship technology, meant to improve gear durability and enable longer casting, and casting with lighter lures. That involves bearings that support the pinion gear on both ends and precise alignment between the drive gear and the pinion, keeping them in position under the heaviest loads, Shimano says. Nasci also features what Shimano calls CoreProtect that helps prevent water from entering the reel, important including in saltwater that can corrode the inside. Four models are available, the 1000, 2500, 3000, 4000 and 5000, for light to heavier line. This reel might be one to use for Average-Joe fishing, but that doesn’t mean the reel is average. It looks to be a great one for everyday angling, For details, visit Shimano’s website. |
