Okuma
Rockaway Surf Rod

Spring surf fishing was peaking when I wrote this.

Here’s one of the new surf rods introduced this past year.

The Rockaway is Okuma’s most responsive surf pole, the company says.

The carbon that the rod’s made from provides a thinner diameter and a lighter weight.

This rod is meant for lighter fishing, including so you can feel the bite.

It’s also designed for castability.

The tip is made with technology that Okuma named Ultimate Flex Reinforcement.

That means the fibers distribute the tip’s force better to help prevent breaking, like during high-sticking.

The company wanted to offer an advantage in the guides, too, Okuma says.

These are steel Sea Guides with Zirconium inserts for braid and monofilament, and the guides are angled forward.

If the braid threatens to tangle on the guides on a windy day, the forward angle helps the braid slide off or helps to prevent tangles.

The rod is available in 10-, 11- and 12-foot lengths.

Each is two pieces and a moderate-fast action for casting and to set the hook.

Here’s the best part.

Rockaways cost only $99 to $109.
