Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 15 Angler

Ocean Kayak, the world’s largest maker of sit-on-top kayaks, the company says, reportedly flew in professional kayak anglers from around the world and asked them for a wish list for a fishing kayak.

The Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 15, new this year, was the result.

The 15-foot, 7-1/2-inch, 60-pound, sit-on-top kayak—made from tough, lightweight polyethylene—was built to feature everything a serious angler could want.

The hull was made for stability and speed. The seat back, called a Comfort Plus seat, was built for couch-like comfort, durability and adjustability, for a custom fit for almost any body type. An oversized, open compartment in the aft can carry a live bait well or store large items like a crate.

A compartment called the Sonar Shield, located fore of the paddler, can hold a fish finder that can be tucked away for transport or to protect it from waves. Pop up the fish finder, and the shield helps reduce glare from sunlight for easier screen reading.

A Rod Pod is located between the paddler’s legs to conveniently hold fishing rods at the ready. Lift up the Rod Pod,  and a small storage tray is underneath that can used for lures and tackle.

The bow includes a large, covered hatch.
A bag for storing batteries, like for the fish finder, is included in the hatch.

The kayak comes with a bunch of other features, including two flush-mounted rod holders, oversized, self-bailing scuppers, a transducer-compatible scupper, paddle keepers, a cup holder, bungees for additional storage, strap eyes for accessories and carrying handles.

An optional rudder system can be added and is helpful for trimming in strong winds or currents.
