StoneFly Vineyards Wines

The memory of a day on the waters is half the enjoyment of fishing.

A glass of Stonefly Vineyards wine can enhance the afterglow.

Stonefly Vineyards, founded more than a decade ago in the Napa Valley, was created
to combine the passions for fine wine and
fly fishing.

“A perfect day begins with a stonefly on your line, and ends with StoneFly in your glass,”
the company says.

StoneFly Vineyards produces Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Blanc.

Cabernet Franc is created to be medium-bodied with an essence of black cherry, thyme and pepper and a subtle cocoa flavor, with a rich, garnet color. Its grapes are grown mostly at the base of Mt. George, protected from harsh climatic variations, in volcanic soil with superior drainage for thriving fruit.

Cabernet Sauvignon is produced to offer a beautiful balance of dried cherry, red currant and spice aromas. To be enjoyed with rich cheeses, mixed grills and favorite chocolate desserts. The grapes come from vineyards along Atlas Peak, a high elevation in a volcanic region, reportedly known for wines with intense character and power.

Cabernet Blanc is “clear and luminous,” the company says, “with a flinty hint of grapefruit and slight grass on the nose.”
The wine offers “creaminess on the mid-palate, blending beautifully with bright, Meyer-lemon flavors (a cross between a lemon and a Mandarin orange).”  The grapes are grown in the southeast Mayacamas Mountain Range in volcanic soils, in direct sunlight with excellent drainage, for a distinct terroir, or sense of place, and high-quality fruit.

Rob and Claudia Hampton—a “fly-fishing, culinary and winemaking duo,” StoneFly says—founded the vintner in 1996, and sold the company last April to start doing more fly fishing than winemaking.

Leslie Rudd and Pat Roney purchased StoneFly, appointing Nick Papadopoulos as CFFO, or Chief Fly Fishing Officer. Nick grew up fishing the coastal waters of Oregon, and spent summers fly-rodding Montana’s trout waters, including the streams in the Bitterroot Valley and the Clark Fork, Beaverhead and Madison rivers.

The rest of the StoneFly team also includes outdoor enthusiasts.

The folks at StoneFly aim to be stewards of the land, including
raising funds for environmental
causes. The new staff is reportedly developing partnerships with
leading conservation and fly-fishing organizations that can benefit causes that customers care about.
