U.S. Reel's SuperCaster
“The only lightweight
reel
with a large-diameter spool.
A high-performance multi-tasker!”
|
The inventor of the SuperCaster was supposedly frustrated with the weight
and large size of spinning reels, especially when casting heavy line sizes.
He was also tired of being forced to fish so many different reels for different
weights of lines.
Heavier lines meant heavier, larger reels, or more fatigue
when casting.
Lighter reels on the market offered no solution, with their smaller spools that limited casting distance big-time from line kink and capacity.
So Fred Kemp, founder of U.S. Reel, set out to invent a solution.
Meet the SuperCaster
Meet the SuperCaster: a spinning reel designed to be lightweight and feature
an uncommonly large-diameter spool, eliminating casting fatigue, and offering
greater line capacity, the ability to pitch line a country mile and the option
to fish a variety of line sizes to perform the job of many reels in one.
A
high-performance multi-tasker was born.
The wide spool is a key. The width was built to handle heavier lines on a smaller reel and also a wide range of line weights. The large diameter is also meant to minimize line memory and twist for long casting. The theory of the longer spool is challenged.
Drag
The patent-pending drag, the SDS Steady Drag System, is built for consistency and
to start smooth and stay smooth, providing an instant, constant and even drag
force when a big fish runs. Created with a series of disks for a special blend
of surfaces, the drag is dry or includes no oils or greases, avoiding problems
like inconsistency from heated lubricant in a running drag, or from lubricant
wearing away and needing to be replaced. The dry system in turn minimizes maintenance.
Mono or Braid
The SuperCaster
works with both monofilament and braided lines. Mono, especially light
mono like 4-pound test, is meant to cast particularly far on the wide spool,
and the large diameter is also created to cut down on line memory for farther
casting with either lighter or heavier mono. For braided lines, SuperCaster
creates a short stroke meant to produce a better wrap pattern for less “pigtailing” to avoid “bird nests” or
tangled braid.
Reel Sizes and Capacities
The SuperCaster comes in two different models, the lighter-weight SX and the
heavier-duty XL, and each comes in two different sizes, the larger-capacity
240 and the smaller-capacity 230:
--The lighter-weight SX series is constructed with a carbon fiber composite body, a carbon fiber rotor and an aluminum spool, and comes with a graphite spare spool. The 240SX is the larger of two sizes, with a 2.4-inch spool, and holds 6- to 14-pound monofilament line, with a capacity ranging from 540 yards of 6-pound line to 191 yards of 14 pound. It holds 6- to 30-pound braided line, with a capacity ranging from 579 yards of 6-pound to 188 yards of 30-pound. The 230SX features a 2.3-inch spool that holds 6- to 14-pound monofilament line, with a capacity ranging from 540 yards of 6-pound to 191 yards of 14 pound. It holds 6- to 30-pound braided line, with a capacity ranging from 579 yards of 6-pound to 188 yards of 30-pound.
--The heavier-duty XL series is constructed with components meant to be super-tough. The 240XL features a 2.4-inch, aluminum spool and is built with an aluminum body and a composite rotor, and comes with a graphite spare spool. The 230XL boasts a 2.3-inch, aluminum spool and is built with a composite body and a composite rotor, and comes with a graphite spool. Line capacities are the same as on the respective SX models.
A spare spool that's included with each reel helps provide the ability to fish a variety of line sizes. The reels also come with a rubber arbor that can be used instead of backing when wrapped with lighter line, also helping the SuperCaster to handle a variety of lines.
The SuperCaster is billed as the world’s only lightweight spinning reel with a large diameter spool.
